The 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has expressed concern over what he describes as a lack of discipline and leadership within the party.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Dr. Opoku Prempeh said the NPP currently needs strong leadership capable of managing recalcitrant members, stressing that no individual is bigger than the party.

He noted that many prominent figures owe their political relevance to the NPP and must therefore act in ways that protect its unity and public image.

According to him, following the party’s defeat in the 2025 elections, leadership embarked on nationwide consultations to hear the concerns of supporters, which led to amendments in the party’s constitution.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh explained that the next critical step is the election of party executives at the constituency, regional, and national levels, following the selection of a flagbearer, to restore effective leadership.

He emphasized that without properly elected leaders, the party cannot hold the government accountable, and that discipline must be restored for the NPP to regain public trust.

“Unity, discipline, and respect for party structures are essential if the NPP is to move forward and remain a strong political force,” he added.
