Kwara United coach confident of beating Kotoko, calls for fair officiating

Kwara United head coach, Tunde Sanni Salihu, says he is confident his team can overcome Asante Kotoko in their CAF Confederation Cup clash if officiating is fair.

The Nigerian side will face Kotoko in the first leg of the 2025/26 preliminary round at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, September 21.

Speaking to Akoma FM ahead of the fixture, Salihu stressed that his side is well-prepared and not intimidated by Kotoko’s reputation.

“We are preparing very well and are confident of beating Kotoko, provided there is fair officiating,” he said.

“Ghana is not the best football nation in Africa, so the fact that Kotoko have national team players in their squad does not intimidate us. We also have national team players, even some on our bench.”

He added that Kwara United’s ambitions go beyond just participation in the tournament.

“Our ambition is clear: we want to go far in this competition. This season, we are competing in three different trophies, and our target is to win all of them, including the CAF Confederation Cup,” he noted.

Salihu also called on Nigerians living in Ghana to turn out in large numbers to support the team in Accra.

“Come Sunday, we will match Kotoko boot for boot. I also urge all Nigerians in Ghana to support us; we will not disappoint them,” he assured.

The return leg is scheduled for Sunday, September 28, at the M.K.O. Abiola International Stadium in Abuja.
