New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant Kwabena Agyei Agyapong has conceded defeat in the primaries after early trends showed former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in a commanding position.

Provisional figures emerging from several constituencies placed Dr Bawumia ahead of the other contenders as counting and collation continued across polling centres nationwide.

In a video shared by JoyNews, Mr Agyapong is seen reaching out to Dr Bawumia by phone to congratulate him on what appeared to be a decisive performance.

“Mahamudu, congratulations. I have seen that you have done it,” he said.

He described the race as highly competitive and underscored the need for calm and unity after the internal contest, stressing that the party’s cohesion must come first.

“It’s a tough battle, but it’s very important to hold the party together and make sure everything is fine,” he added.

Mr Agyapong further pledged his support to Dr Bawumia, assuring him of his willingness to contribute to the party’s next phase.

“As usual, you know I’m always available. We will meet at the party’s headquarters,” he said.

The NPP primaries are expected to officially conclude once results from all constituencies are fully collated and declared by the party’s election authorities.
