President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has expressed deep appreciation to his predecessor, Kwesi Nyantakyi, for his unwavering support and guidance.
Okraku, who succeeded Nyantakyi as GFA President in 2019, has faced both praise and criticism during his tenure, particularly over the inconsistent performances of Ghana’s national teams, including the Black Stars.
Under his leadership, Ghana suffered back-to-back group-stage exits at the 2021 and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments in Cameroon and Ivory Coast, before missing out on qualification for the 2025 edition, the first time in more than 20 years the country failed to reach the continental showpiece.
However, the Black Stars recently bounced back by securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Okraku commended Nyantakyi, the former CAF First Vice President, for consistently offering him valuable counsel during difficult moments.
“I am always grateful to Kwasi Nyantakyi for his support,” he said.
“He did his best for the country, and anytime I am faced with a challenge, I call him and he meets me and offers me his advise, and I am always grateful to him for attending to me anytime I call on him when I am in trouble,” he added.
The Black Stars are expected to discover their group opponents for the 2026 World Cup on December 5.
