Former Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has called for a complete overhaul of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) leadership, arguing that the party cannot continue under its current structure.
Speaking in an interview with 3FM, Dr. Kokofu said, “There must be a complete cleanup; we cannot continue to tolerate this kind of leadership.”
He expressed concern over the state of the party’s internal structures but expressed confidence in his ability to help rebuild them. “The structures of the party have disintegrated. I have what it takes to heal the party. It is achievable. What inspired me most are the works of Former President Akufo-Addo and Former President Kufuor,” he noted.
Dr. Kokofu also emphasized the need to replace the current executives, adding, “The message from the grassroots is clear: this crop of party executives must be changed.”
He stressed that fresh leadership is essential to energize the party’s support base and secure victory in future elections. “We must heal the NPP and restore unity as we prepare for the 2028 elections,” he said.
Reflecting on the party’s recent defeat in the Akwatia by-election, where NPP candidate Solomon Asumadu lost to NDC’s Bernard Bediako Baidoo, Dr. Kokofu admitted the outcome revealed deeper weaknesses. “Our organisational machinery was weak, and our structures poorly grounded—and that was clearly reflected in the Akwatia outcome,” he disclosed.
