The Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Richard Ofori‑Agyemang Boadi, has announced that the government will soon break ground for the construction of a new children’s hospital in Kumasi.

He noted that the metropolis currently has only two pediatric facilities: the Kumasi Children’s Hospital at Adum‑Pampaso and the privately run Asokwa Children’s Hospital.

Mr. Boadi made the revelation in an interview with Adom News on the sidelines of the commissioning of the Abiss Bus Terminal and Lodge in Adehyeman.

He explained that the government has completed preparatory work and is now securing land for the new children’s hospital, describing the project as part of Kumasi’s broader development agenda.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive said the project is scheduled to commence in January 2026.

“Kumasi currently has only two hospitals equipped to handle children’s health needs—the Children’s Hospital at Pampaso and the privately owned Asokwa Children’s Hospital. To address this challenge, the President has directed the construction of a new hospital, slated to begin in January 2026, specifically designed to cater to the health needs of children in Kumasi,” he said.
