Kim Lars Björkegren earns CAF Women’s Coach of the Year award nomination

Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has been nominated for the Women’s Coach of the Year award at the 2025 CAF Awards.

The Swedish tactician earned the recognition after guiding Ghana’s senior women’s national team to a bronze medal at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco earlier this year.

Björkegren is one of ten coaches shortlisted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the prestigious honour. His competitors include Adelaide Koudougnon (Côte d’Ivoire), Siaka Gigi Traore (ASEC Mimosas), Lamia Boumehdi (TP Mazembe), Genoveva Anonman (15 De Agosto), Jorge Vilda (Morocco), Bankole Olowookere, Justin Madugu, Desiree Ellis, and Carol Kanyemba.

Björkegren took over from Nora Hauptle earlier this year after the Swiss coach’s contract came to an end.

For now, the 42-year-old’s focus remains on steering the Black Queens to the 2026 WAFCON, with a decisive qualification tie against Egypt still to come.
