The Paramount Queen Mother of Kenyasi No. 2 in the Ahafo Region, Nana Akua Aboagyewaa Tinkwamaa II, has threatened to ban commercial motorbike (okada) operations in the area if reckless riding continues.
Speaking at a recent engagement with okada riders, assembly members, civil society organizations, and youth associations, the Nkosobaapayin, Nana Abena Fosuaa, conveyed the Queen Mother’s concerns to Adom News.
She expressed alarm over the high rate of accidents involving commercial motorbikes, many of which have resulted in fatalities. According to her, riders often disregard traffic regulations and ride carelessly, causing fear among residents.
Nana Abena Fosuaa warned that if okada riders fail to adhere to road rules within the coming days, the Queen Mother would be compelled to use her authority to ban their activities to protect the community.
Meanwhile, Frank Kofi Adusei, Head of the Omanbotantim Association, thanked the Queen Mother for engaging stakeholders to address the rising number of accidents. He emphasized the urgent need for intensive education for all motorbike riders on traffic rules to reduce accidents in the community.
