Asante Kotoko Head Coach Karim Zito has praised his players for their resilience and determination after securing a hard-fought 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea in their Ghana Premier League opener.

The Porcupine Warriors travelled to the Golden City Park on Saturday, where they ended a 15-year winless run at the venue.

Following a tense first half, striker Albert Amoah struck in the 80th minute with a fine finish to seal all three points for Kotoko.

Speaking after the game, Zito lauded his team’s fighting spirit and described the result as a fair reflection of their performance.

“After a hard-fought football match, I have done justice to Kotoko. If you look at the way we played, we created a lot of chances,” he said.

“If we had ended this game with a draw, I don’t think it would have been fair. So, I’m very happy with my boys.”

Kotoko will now turn their attention to continental duties as they prepare for the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round, with the two-legged tie scheduled for September 21 and 28 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
