Kantamanto fire: One officer injured as GNFS controls blaze

A firefighter sustained injuries during a major fire outbreak at a clothing bale warehouse in Kantamanto, Accra, early Tuesday morning.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the officer suffered smoke inhalation and asphyxiation while battling the blaze .

The injured officer was quickly administered first aid and transported to the hospital by personnel from the National Ambulance Service for further medical care.

Meanwhile, eight fire engines are currently present controlling the fire.

According to the GNFS, the fire erupted around 1:31 a.m. at Tazan Lane near Ecobank, consuming several commercial structures within the busy market enclave.

The first fire appliance arrived on the scene at 1:42 a.m., followed by seven additional engines and a Turntable Ladder (TL) mobilized from Circle, Industrial Area, Accra Regional Headquarters, Madina, Legon, and two appliances from the National Headquarters.

The swift and coordinated response helped contain the fire at 4:49 a.m. after several hours of intense firefighting.

Acting Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, together with the Director of Operations, the Greater Accra Regional Commander, and other senior officers, arrived at the scene to assess the extent of damage and oversee ongoing operations.

Firefighters continue to work rigorously to ensure complete extinguishment and prevent a possible reignition of the blaze.
