Former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has described the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, as “fake” and lacking the maturity required for his position.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng dismissed claims that he is being influenced by others in making his public comments, insisting that he has remained consistent and genuinely concerned about the state of the party.

He criticised what he described as factional activities within the NPP, calling them “fake” and urging those involved to step aside to allow what he termed the “real party” to stand.

According to him, the current leadership is destroying the party, and someone must speak out against what he views as growing indiscipline.

“I have never met or spoken to the General Secretary, Justin Kodua, before, but I am waiting for official communication from the party. If he claims to be a lawyer, he needs to tread carefully,” he said.

He added: “It’s disheartening for him to suggest that someone is asking me to do what I’m doing. I have been consistent and genuinely concerned about the party’s direction. That faction within the party is a facade; they should step aside, and the true core of the party will endure.”

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said he is unbothered by threats of expulsion, stressing that he would not miss the party if such action is taken.

He also criticised the party’s internal processes, arguing that electing a flagbearer before completing elections from the polling station level through to the national level goes against the true traditions of the NPP.

“He is not a mature General Secretary, and I’m unfazed by any statements they issue. They are harming the party, and someone needs to stand up against that. Everyone seems to be doing as they please within the party. If they want to expel me, so be it—I won’t miss them. What is happening is not the NPP I know,” he said.

He further stated: “It’s wrong to elect a flagbearer before we go through the proper processes, starting from the polling station to the constituency, then to the region, and finally to the national level. That’s not how the true NPP operates.”

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party has announced that it has invoked relevant provisions of its constitution to commence processes to expel Prof. Frimpong-Boateng.

This follows comments he made on Accra-based Channel One TV on January 12, 2026, where he described the NPP as a “fake party” and stated that he no longer considers himself a member.
