JoyNews hosts National Dialogue on Ghana’s opioid crisis today

JoyNews will today, Thursday, August 28, 2025, host a crucial national dialogue under the theme “Breaking the Chains: Ghana’s Opioid Crisis” as the country grapples with rising concerns over opioid misuse.

The event will bring together key stakeholders, including the Youth and Development Minister, George Opare Addo, Dr. Birgit Nuro-Panin of the Ghana Police Service, addiction specialist Dr. Dordoye, as well as representatives from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).

The discussions will focus on prevention strategies, law enforcement interventions, treatment and support systems, and the need to strengthen policy and regulatory frameworks around opioid prescription and distribution.

The dialogue is expected to produce actionable solutions such as a comprehensive national strategy, improved access to treatment services, enhanced law enforcement capacity, increased public awareness, and stronger partnerships across government, civil society, and the private sector.

The JoyNews National Dialogue will provide a platform for experts and policymakers to share experiences and propose lasting interventions to break the chains of Ghana’s opioid crisis.
