The Vice Principal of St. Joseph’s College of Education, Reverend Father Martin Yaw Adjei, has expressed concern over the government’s decision to provide teacher trainees with only one meal per day, describing it as a setback to students’ welfare and safety.

In an interview with Adom News, Rev. Father Adjei explained that directing colleges of education to serve students only one afternoon meal could create more challenges than benefits. He noted that the policy has compelled boarders to frequently leave campus under the pretext of buying food, exposing them to safety risks and creating management difficulties.

“Students are going into town constantly because they’re hungry, and this poses serious risks to their safety,” he said, urging the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to reconsider the decision.

While raising these concerns, Rev. Father Adjei also called on students to maintain discipline, warning that management will not hesitate to take action against defaulters.

He further appealed to parents and community leaders to respect the authority of school management in handling cases of indiscipline.

“The rise in student indiscipline must be addressed at the school level,” he said. “Stakeholders should allow school managers to enforce rules to properly guide students.”
