Member of Parliament for Pusiga, Laadi Ayii Ayamba, has described the recent tragedy at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, which claimed the lives of six young women during a military recruitment exercise, as an event destined by Allah.

Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, the MP expressed deep sorrow over the deaths but urged the nation to find comfort in faith.

“It is very painful to have our children go for recruitment only for us to lose them, but I want us all to take solace in the Almighty Allah. There’s nothing that happens that doesn’t happen at the right time. This is what the Almighty Allah has ordained for them,” she said.

She added emotionally, “Today was their day,” acknowledging the heartbreak felt by families and communities affected by the incident.

The stampede occurred when thousands of young Ghanaians thronged the El-Wak Sports Stadium in hopes of being enlisted into the Ghana Armed Forces. Intense pushing and overcrowding at the entrance reportedly led to chaos, resulting in multiple injuries and fatalities.

According to the Ghana Armed Forces, six female applicants lost their lives in the incident, while several others sustained injuries. Some of the victims remain in critical condition at the 37 Military Hospital.

Following the tragedy, the Armed Forces have suspended the ongoing recruitment exercise at the stadium until further notice. A formal investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the stampede.

The incident has reignited public concern over safety and crowd management during national recruitment exercises, prompting renewed calls for comprehensive reforms to prevent future occurrences.
