Former HIV/AIDS ambassador Joyce Dzidzor Mensah has resurfaced online after months of silence, alleging that she was kidnapped and held in isolation in Togo.

In a video shared on social media, she claimed she had been missing since her last post in August 2025, during which period she was taken against her will and confined for several weeks.

Appearing visibly slimmer and dishevelled, she attributed her condition to the ordeal, stating that she was often deprived of food and kept under strict confinement.

According to her account, the incident began when she travelled to Togo to visit family and was allegedly lured by an uncle under the pretext of undergoing a spiritual initiation known as “AFA.” She claimed the situation quickly turned sinister after she was taken to multiple locations and eventually locked in a gated facility.

Joyce Dzidzor Mensah further alleged that she was held in a small room under harsh conditions and witnessed activities she described as ritualistic, involving individuals seeking spiritual or financial assistance.

She said she later managed to escape what she described as a life-threatening ordeal, with the help of a “man of God.”

The former ambassador indicated that she has reported the matter to the Togolese Police and has secured copies of documents she claims are official reports. She noted that the suspect at the centre of the allegations has reportedly evaded arrest on two occasions.

Describing the incident as a human rights issue, Joyce Dzidzor Mensah said she is considering escalating the matter internationally if justice is not served.

She also appealed to the public for legal advice on whether to release images and details of the alleged perpetrators to aid in their arrest.

Her reappearance has sparked widespread reactions online, with many expressing concern over her condition and calling for thorough investigations into the claims.
