Abu National, the Ashanti Regional Draught Champion, says playing the game generates more income for him than driving his taxi car for business.
According to him, not only does draught playing bring in substantial income, it has also provided him with opportunities to travel outside Ghana to countries like South Africa and Malawi.
In an exclusive interview with Adom News, Abu National stated that regulating the game would offer great opportunities and promote Ghana globally.
“If we regulate and accept draught as a sport, it will create opportunities for interested individuals and showcase Ghana’s talent worldwide,” he said.
Abu National also highlighted the cognitive benefits of playing draught, saying it’s an effective way to learn mathematics due to the strategic thinking and calculations involved.
“Draught is not for lazy people; big men play draughts,” he emphasized.
He commended Adom TV for introducing a draught competition, which he won, bringing pride to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in Kumasi.
The Ashanti regional draught organizer, Kwame Ampadu, expressed gratitude to Adom TV for the opportunity and noted that the region is fully prepared for the Adom TV Dame Dame show.
“We’re grateful for this wonderful opportunity, and we hope other national TV stations will follow suit, as draught is a significant game that shouldn’t be underestimated,” he said.
In the Ashanti region, there are eight draught clubs, with the playing headquarters at Amakom.
The competitors say they are all ready for the Adom TV Dame Dame show.
