Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has expressed his delight after completing a high-profile move to Manchester City during the winter transfer window.
Pep Guardiola’s side splashed out £64 million to secure the services of the 25-year-old, who has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season.
Semenyo has already notched 10 league goals, underlining his growing influence and consistency at the top level.
The two-footed winger’s rise has been steady rather than sudden. From Bristol City to Bournemouth, the Ghana international has worked his way up the English football ladder and now earns the opportunity to compete for the biggest honours in European football.
Speaking in his first interview as a City player, Semenyo admitted the magnitude of the move is still sinking in.
“It’s only sinking in now to be honest,” he began.
“I’ve had to work very hard to get to this point. I’m over the moon that it’s done and looking forward to the challenge.
“I’m so excited. I’m looking forward to meeting the boys, just competing at the highest level and hopefully winning all four competitions.
“I’m looking forward to it, and I can’t wait for the challenge,” he added.
City will pay an initial £62.5 million, with a further £1.5 million in performance-related add-ons. Bournemouth have also negotiated a 10 per cent sell-on clause on any future profit from the player.
Semenyo had drawn interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur but ultimately chose the Etihad Stadium as the next step in his career.
He is available for immediate selection and could make his debut in next Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg tie against Newcastle United.
