A teacher at West Africa Senior High School (WASS), Nicholas Teye, has expressed disappointment following a court ruling in an assault case involving three individuals who attacked him.

On Monday, March 30, 2026, the Adentan Circuit Court fined the three offenders GH¢4,000 each after they admitted to assaulting Mr. Teye. In addition, the court ordered them to sign a two-year bond of good behaviour.

The presiding judge noted that two of the offenders are students currently sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and also considered that the accused had already spent six weeks in remand following their initial court appearance.

Speaking to Adom News’ Kodwo Mensah Aboroampa, Mr. Teye said the outcome fell short of his expectations. He explained that he initially believed the mention of “two years” in court referred to a custodial sentence, only to later learn it was a bond of good behaviour.

“I was disappointed,” he said, adding that he had hoped for a more deterrent punishment given the severity of the assault.

His concerns were echoed by the Madina-area Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Christian Yaw Adinkra, who warned that lenient rulings could embolden others to attack teachers. He cautioned that without stronger punitive measures, educators might feel compelled to take personal security into their own hands to prevent similar incidents.
