The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has denied allegations that he interfered with an anti-illegal mining operation at Hwidiem in the Ahafo Region, insisting that his actions were guided by leadership and a commitment to justice.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Addo said he remains steadfast in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, despite public criticism.
“Anyone who doesn’t understand leadership will say I’m holding the party to ransom. Nothing will stop me in the fight against galamsey,” he said.
He urged the public to allow the police investigations into the incident to run their course, stressing his belief in due process and fair hearing.
“I believe that when issues arise, there should be fair hearing for a good conclusion. People have freedom of speech, and I don’t take the allegations to heart. I’m only waiting for the investigations to finish,” he added.
Mr. Addo is currently assisting police with investigations into an alleged mob attack on the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) team, which was conducting an operation to arrest illegal miners near Bronikrom on November 1, 2025.
The MP emphasized that he only visited the scene to understand the situation, stressing that his actions were lawful and aimed at maintaining peace.
