Ho Central MP organises debate among schools to mark International Day of the Girl Child

The Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Edem Kofi Kpotosu, in collaboration with the Ho Municipal Directorate of Education, has organized a Girl Child Debate to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child.

The event, held in Ho, brought together Junior High School and primary school pupils from across the municipality under the theme “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontline of Crises.”

The debate aimed to empower young girls to find their voices, express their ideas confidently, and raise awareness about the vital roles girls play in society, especially in times of crisis.

The event highlighted the importance of education, leadership, and resilience among girls while also providing a platform for them to discuss issues affecting their growth and future.

In an interview with Adom News, Edem Kofi Kpotosu, highlighting the theme for the celebration, emphasised the need to create more opportunities for girls to lead and participate in decision-making processes.

“Girls are not just the future, they are the present. We must continue to support and nurture their potential to become impactful leaders, particularly in addressing the challenges facing our communities,” he said.

The Municipal Director of Education, Esther Yeboah Adzimah, also commended the participating students for their confidence and critical thinking.

She noted that such initiatives are crucial in building self-esteem among young girls and encouraging academic excellence.

The debate saw impressive performances from the students, who passionately argued on topics related to gender equality, climate change, girls’ education, and community development.

Awards and certificates were presented to outstanding debaters and schools that participated.

Parents, teachers, traditional leaders, and stakeholders in education were present to support the event, making it a successful and inspiring celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child.
