The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has appealed to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to exercise leniency in dealing with Ms. Bernice Aboagye, a staff nurse who was recently queried for using abusive language against him.
In a statement issued by the Ministry, the Minister acknowledged the GHS for promptly enforcing professional standards and upholding its Code of Conduct but urged the Service to “temper justice with mercy” in handling the matter.
According to the statement, Hon. Akandoh emphasized that both he and the government welcome divergent views and constructive criticism, describing them as essential to promoting tolerance and openness in governance.
He, however, encouraged health workers to express their grievances responsibly and respectfully, without resorting to insults, as such conduct undermines the dignity of the profession and the growth of the health sector.
The Minister further noted that while peaceful demonstrations are a legitimate constitutional right, the Ministry will not tolerate abusive language or acts of indiscipline during such actions.
The statement concluded with a reminder to all health professionals to be measured and professional in their public communications and social media engagements.
