The Member of Parliament for Guan, Fred Agbenyo, has appealed for a befitting state burial for the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

The former First Lady, who was the wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, passed away on Thursday at the Ridge Hospital in Accra. She was 76.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady, serving during both the military and civilian administrations led by her husband.

In Parliament on Thursday, several lawmakers paid glowing tributes to her memory.

Fred Agbenyo, in his remarks, described the late Nana Konadu as a woman who made immense contributions to national development.

“She has played her role; she has contributed; she has served this country very well. I believe that she deserves a state burial. I believe that we need to give her a befitting burial that she rightly deserves.

“She has played her role, and posterity will remember her kindly,” the Guan MP said.
