The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (Ghana Tertiary Education Commission) has directed the management of Royal Nursing College to refund all fees collected from Level 100 and 200 students following the institution’s closure.

In a statement issued on Thursday, March 19, the Commission explained that the decision forms part of efforts to address irregularities identified at the college, which was shut down on February 19, 2026, at Tafo Nhyiaeso.

According to GTEC, discussions with the University of Cape Coast, the college’s affiliate institution, revealed that students in Levels 100 and 200 were not formally recognised. This, the Commission said, was because they were admitted at a time when the college’s accreditation had already been revoked.

The Commission further noted that UCC has since terminated its affiliation with the college, following the withdrawal of its licence by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana and GTEC’s own revocation of the institution’s accreditation.

For continuing students, GTEC indicated that UCC will carry out an audit of Level 300 students and absorb only those who meet the required admission criteria to ensure academic standards are upheld.

Meanwhile, the Commission emphasised that the closure of the college remains in effect, adding that enforcement actions are ongoing. It also disclosed that some members of the college’s management have been arrested and are being processed for prosecution for failing to comply with regulatory directives.

GTEC further advised prospective students and the public to always verify the accreditation status of tertiary institutions before enrolling, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding quality and integrity in Ghana’s higher education system.
