The Ghana Tourism Authority, in partnership with Tribe Culture Fest, has officially launched “16×16,” a nationwide fan engagement initiative aimed at rallying support and excitement ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The initiative was unveiled at the Accra Sports Stadium, marking the start of what organisers describe as a strategic campaign to blend sports, tourism, and culture across the country.

“16×16” is being rolled out with the support of the embassies of the United States, Canada, and Mexico; the three host nations of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to run from June 11 to July 12, 2026. The involvement of these diplomatic missions highlights the international collaboration underpinning the initiative.

Representatives from all three embassies were present at the launch, reinforcing the global significance of the programme and its potential to deepen cultural and tourism ties between Ghana and the host countries.

Also in attendance was the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana, led by its President, Anthony Baffoe, alongside key stakeholders from the tourism, sports, and creative arts sectors.

The “16×16” initiative is expected to activate fan zones and community-based events across the country, leveraging football’s popularity to promote domestic tourism, cultural exchange, and economic activity in the lead-up to the global tournament.

Organisers say the programme will not only build excitement for the World Cup but also position Ghana as a vibrant destination for sports tourism, aligning with broader national efforts to harness major international events for economic and cultural growth.
