The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) will meet with the Ministry of Transport on Friday, January 16, 2026, to address concerns over passenger fare overpricing amid persistent vehicle shortages.

Speaking on Adom Trotro, GPRTU Public Relations Officer, Abass Imoro, said the meeting will focus on finding sustainable solutions to the challenges commuters face, particularly during peak hours.

He emphasised that the union is concerned about reports of some drivers charging unapproved fares due to limited vehicle availability, stressing that GPRTU does not condone such practices.

“Drivers have been consistently cautioned not to exploit passengers. Issues such as vehicle breakdowns, traffic congestion, or fuel shortages should never be used as an excuse to increase fares arbitrarily,” Mr. Imoro said.

He added that the engagement with the Transport Ministry is expected to produce clearer policies and collaborative measures to protect commuters while ensuring fairness to drivers.
