The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has announced that the government will officially launch the Nkoko Nkitinkiti poultry programme later this month to boost local poultry production and reduce dependence on imports.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Opoku explained that the initiative will support poultry farmers nationwide with feed, fertilizer, and other inputs to enhance productivity.
He said 50 “anchor farmers” have been identified across the country to receive 80,000 birds each, with a target of producing four million birds.
“We support poultry farming by providing feed and other resources. The NSS poultry farm aims to scale up its operations, and we are assisting by supplying feed, fertilizer, and additional support. We will officially launch this initiative this month.
“The president wants to ensure an abundant poultry supply in the country, so we are focusing on three key actions. First, we have identified 50 farmers across the country, whom we call “anchor farmers,” he said.
In addition, 500 medium-scale farmers will receive between 1,000 and 3,000 birds to expand their operations.
“We will provide them with 80,000 birds, which the government will supply. As they generate profits, they will repay the government. Our goal is for them to produce 4 million birds. In addition, we have identified 500 medium-scale farmers who will receive between 1,000 and 3,000 birds each. We have already conducted a pilot program for them,” he stated.
