The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has revealed that the government will establish processing plants under the Nkoko Nkitinkiti poultry programme to ensure that chickens produced can be properly processed and stored.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Opoku said the rollout of the programme will be done in phases, with every constituency expected to benefit eventually.
He noted that the initiative aims to promote sustainability and reduce post-production losses.
The Minister also announced that the President will cut sod in November for the construction of a poultry processing centre at Bechem.
“We have purchased 3 million birds for the ‘Nkoko Nkitinkiti’ poultry program and will distribute 10,000 birds to each constituency. We have identified farmers in various districts and have provided them with training for breeding and vaccination.
“The rollout of the ‘Nkoko Nkitinkiti’ poultry program will be done in phases, so not everyone will receive birds this year. Processing plants will be established for the poultry program, allowing us to process and store the chickens.
“The president will cut the sod for the poultry processing center in November, which will be constructed in Bechyem. Our aim is to make this program sustainable. We will also develop a feeding program alongside the center, and after its completion, we will hand it over to the private sector,” he added.
