Ghana is set to build three new modern stadiums in 2026 as part of a fresh push to expand sports infrastructure across the country.
Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson announced the initiative on Thursday, November 13, 2025, while presenting the 2026 Budget in Parliament.
He said the projects will be sited in three of the eight regions that currently lack standard sporting facilities.
“Construction of modern stadia will begin in three of the eight regions without such facilities,” Dr Forson confirmed.
Regions such as Ahafo, North East, Savannah, Oti and Western North remain without fully equipped stadia, a gap the government says it is determined to close.
Dr Forson added that the broader plan goes beyond infrastructure. Government will channel resources into athlete welfare and talent development as Ghana prepares for major international competitions, including the FIFA World Cup and the Commonwealth Games.
He also disclosed that Anti-Doping Regulations will be completed to reinforce clean competition across all sporting disciplines.
“The government will invest in athlete welfare, sports infrastructure, and talent development in preparation for the FIFA World Cup, Commonwealth Games, and other tournaments,” he stated.
“The Anti-Doping Regulations will be finalised to enforce clean sports.”
According to him, these measures are designed to create the right conditions for Ghanaian athletes to thrive and to strengthen the country’s presence on the global sporting stage.
