Gov’t committed to expanding school infrastructure – Bono East Regional Minister

The Bono East Regional Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, has reaffirmed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s commitment to improving school infrastructure across the country, with Amantin Senior High School (SHS) among the institutions set to benefit.

Representing the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, at Amantin SHS’s 30th Anniversary and Homecoming celebration on Saturday, September 12, 2025, Mr. Antwi emphasized that infrastructure development remains a top priority under the Mahama-led administration.

“The vision of the NDC government under President Mahama is clear: infrastructure development in our schools is a top priority, and schools in Bono East, including Amantin SHS, will not be left out,” he stated.

He assured the school authorities, Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), and students that their concerns would be addressed in collaboration with the MP for Atebubu-Amantin, Sanja Nanja. He also called on alumni and stakeholders to support the school and encouraged students to uphold discipline, integrity, and hard work.

Mr. Antwi linked the government’s education agenda to the Mahama administration’s Reset Agenda, which aims to consolidate gains in the sector and provide every Ghanaian child with access to quality learning in a conducive environment.

Amantin SHS Headmaster, Godfrey Djei, outlined severe infrastructure challenges, including inadequate classrooms, dormitories, dining space, furniture, and the absence of an administration block. He noted that overcrowding has forced students to carry desks between classes, while some boarders lack beds.

“These conditions disrupt effective learning and require urgent attention,” he stressed.

MP for Atebubu-Amantin, Sanja Nanja, pledged to work with relevant agencies to address the challenges, highlighting the school’s history of producing top talents despite limited resources.

The 30th anniversary, themed “Quality Education and Discipline – Tools for Self-Employment and National Development,” brought together dignitaries, alumni, parents, and the local community to celebrate Amantin SHS’s achievements and chart a course for its future.
