Gov’t announces state funeral for former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

The Government of Ghana has announced that a state funeral will be held for the late former First Lady, Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Independence Square in Accra.

In a statement issued by the Presidency Communications Directorate on Thursday, November 6, the government said the ceremony will be held under the auspices of President John Dramani Mahama.

“The state funeral is in recognition of Mrs. Rawlings’ invaluable contributions to the advancement of the rights of women and children in Ghana, as well as her role in national development,” the statement, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications and Spokesperson to the President, noted.

Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001. She was widely acclaimed for her advocacy for women’s empowerment and for founding the 31st December Women’s Movement.

The funeral is expected to attract dignitaries from across Ghana and abroad, honouring her legacy of service, activism, and dedication to the nation.
