The Government of Ghana has earmarked GH₵150 million ($13m) for the Black Stars as part of the country’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The allocation was announced by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson on Thursday, November 13, during his presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement to Parliament.
Dr Forson explained that the funding underscores government’s wider strategy to support national teams competing on the global stage and to strengthen sports development nationwide.
“The government’s sustained investment in sports yielded impressive results, with the Black Stars qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” Dr Forson said.
“An amount of GH¢150 million has been allocated for the Black Stars to participate in the World Cup,” he added.
He added that government remains committed to improving sports infrastructure and nurturing talent across the country, noting that plans are underway to build new stadiums in selected regions.
Ghana will discover their group-stage opponents when the World Cup draw takes place in Washington, DC, on December 5.
