Government to rehabilitate the National Theatre in Accra

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced key initiatives to support Ghana’s creative sector in the 2026 Budget Statement presented to Parliament.

Dr. Forson revealed that the government will rehabilitate the National Theatre in Accra and begin site acquisition and design for a second national theatre in Kumasi.

He also announced the establishment of a Film Fund to revive the local film industry, including Kumawood and other film associations.

Additionally, a Creative Arts Fund will be created to support the arts, music, fashion, food, and other creative sectors, underscoring the government’s commitment to boosting Ghana’s cultural economy.

“Mr. Speaker, in 2026, government will rehabilitate the National Theatre in Accra and commence site acquisition and design of a second national theatre in Kumasi. We will establish the Film Fund to revive the film industry, including Kumawood and other associations, and create the Creative Arts Fund to support arts, music, fashion, food, and other creative sectors,” he stated.
