The Government of Ghana is making steady progress in a competitive tender process to select a new operator for the Damang Mine, as part of efforts to increase local participation in the mining sector.
Speaking on the process, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, said the selection is being conducted transparently to identify a company with the technical and financial capacity to manage the mine efficiently while delivering long-term value to the nation.
He explained that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to empower Ghanaians to play a leading role in an industry historically dominated by foreign firms.
The Minister expressed confidence that the tender process is advancing smoothly and remains aligned with the government’s goal of strengthening local ownership.
The Damang Mine is estimated to hold about 3.55 million ounces of gold, with projected production of 1.85 million ounces between 2026 and 2036. Officials also note that the mine’s lifespan could be extended to 30 years, a move expected to significantly boost national revenue in the future.
