GOC supports Ghana’s 4×100 Relay Team, calls on corporate to invest in World Championship preparation

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has thrown its full weight behind the national men’s 4×100 relay team and has called on corporate and state institutions to invest in the team as they prepare to take on the world at the upcoming 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan from September 13 to 21 where top athletes from all over the world will converge to determine global champions.

The GOC, in a bid to enhance the performance of team Ghana at the world championship, has sponsored the camping of the men’s 4×100 m relay team, confirming its commitment to supporting the development and promotion of performing sports, ie athletics, in Ghana.

Top 7 men’s 100m sprinters, namely Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Benjamin Azamati, Ibrahim Fuseini, Barnabas Aggerh, Mustapha Bokpin, Isaac Botsio and captain Joe Paul Amoah will be in Texas, USA, for a secluded training camp at Texas A&M University–Commerce under Coach George Pincock.

The camp, organised by Ghana Athletics in close coordination and financial support from the Ghana Olympic Committee.

With the World Championships just around the corner, the team is focused on fine-tuning their skills and perfecting their baton exchange techniques.

They have an ideal environment to prepare for the championships, they will train tirelessly to work on their technique, speed and endurance to ensure they are in top form for the World Championships.

According to the GOC President, Richard Akpokavie Esq., “We are excited to support our relay team and sprinters as they prepare for the World Championships. We believe in their potential and are confident that with the right support, they can make a strong impression on the world stage.”

“These athletes have been very consistent with their performances. I watch them bring joy to Ghanaians anytime they get to the track. The GOC’s support is not enough, hence my call on Ghana to support the team to deliver, for their success will bring joy to Ghana,” he added.

Earlier, the GOC had extended similar support to a number of federations like armwrestling, badminton, rugby, rowing, table tennis, volleyball, bodybuilding, GUSA and others, demonstrating its commitment to promoting sports development across various disciplines.

This support is part of the GOC’s ongoing efforts to boost the performance of Ghanaian athletes on the international stage.
