The Goaso Municipal Hospital in the Ahafo Region says it has intensified efforts to stop staff from demanding illegal fees from patients enrolled in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Medical Superintendent Dr. James Ankomah confirmed that hospital management is taking stronger action after receiving several complaints from the public about unauthorized charges, also known as co-payments.
He explained that the practice not only tarnishes the hospital’s image but also discourages people from accessing healthcare services at the facility.
Speaking to Adom News during a visit by the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and his team, Dr. Ankomah said previous measures to curb the practice were insufficient.
“We are determined to identify and deal with staff engaged in this act so that the hospital can rebuild trust and give residents the quality healthcare they deserve,” he stated.
Dr. Ankomah commended the NHIA leadership for engaging directly with hospital management on the issue, describing the visit as timely. He added that the interaction will help improve the scheme and make it more beneficial to Ghanaians.
