Kwame Opare Addo, Communications Director for Accra Hearts of Oak, has clarified that the club’s goalkeeper coach, Najahu Issah, will decide when Benjamin Asare returns to the starting lineup.
Asare lost his first-choice status to Solomon Agbetsi after sustaining an injury in an international friendly against South Korea in November last year. Agbetsi, who debuted for Hearts in a November match against Swedru All Blacks, has since held onto the number one spot.
Although Asare has recovered from his injury, he has yet to feature in a match for the Phobian club.
Speaking to Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Opare Addo indicated that Asare’s full return will be carefully managed by the goalkeeper coach.
“For now, Benjamin Asare will be given a few minutes of play until he fully recovers from his injury. The decision for him to take the starting position in goal, replacing Agbetsi, will be made by the goalkeeper’s trainer,” he said.
He also addressed Asare’s absence from Hearts’ recent clash with Medeama, revealing the Black Stars custodian missed the game due to a stomach upset.
“Benjaime Asare made the team sheet but missed the Medeama clash because of a stomach upset,” Opare Addo added.
Asare will be hoping to reclaim his starting role when Hearts of Oak face Hohoe United in their Matchday 18 fixture at the Hohoe Sports Stadium on Sunday.
