A potential disaster was narrowly averted at Aveme Junction near Anfoega in the Volta Region after a petroleum tanker was involved in a road accident, sparking fears of a possible explosion.
The incident occurred early in the morning when the tanker, with registration number GT 5872–23, reportedly veered off the road due to brake failure.
Although the tanker was not carrying fuel at the time, emergency responders treated the situation with urgency because of the inherent risks associated with petroleum tankers.

Firefighters quickly secured the scene and implemented safety measures to eliminate any possible ignition sources.
As a precaution, nearby electricity lines were disconnected in collaboration with officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana to prevent sparks that could trigger a fire.

The tanker sustained significant damage, including to its diesel tank, bumpers, front right tyre, and headlights. Authorities later arranged for the vehicle to be safely towed from the scene.
Traffic in the area was temporarily controlled to ensure public safety before the road was fully reopened. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.
