The Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Samuel Basintale Amadu, has visited AICO II Daniel Kofi Oppong, who is receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital after surviving a violent attack at the Gbintri checkpoint in the North East Region.

The incident, which occurred during a routine border operation, claimed the life of AICO II Rafiq Mohammed, who was on duty with Mr. Oppong at the time.

During his visit, Mr. Amadu expressed profound sorrow over the loss and described the assault as a “cowardly act” that would not undermine the Service’s dedication to protecting Ghana’s borders.

“This cowardly attack will not deter us,” he emphasized. “We remain resolute in our mission to secure the country’s borders. Our officers will continue to receive the needed protective equipment and logistical support to perform their duties effectively.”

The GIS boss also appealed to the public to share any information that could assist in identifying and arresting those behind the attack.

The visit formed part of Mr. Amadu’s tour of the North East Region to assess the operational readiness of his officers and boost morale among frontline personnel.

He was accompanied by senior GIS officials, including DCOI Maud Anima Quainoo, Head of the Public Affairs Department; Northern Regional Commander, DCOI Thomas Adjei; Chief Staff Officer, ACOI Gorden Saah; and other top officers.

Mr. Amadu reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to working with other security agencies to ensure that justice is served for the fallen and injured officers.
