The Ghana Navy has arrested ten Nigerian nationals for attempting to stow away on a Panamanian-registered merchant vessel, MV Grand Venus, at the Tema Port.
A statement from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) said the operation took place on Friday, October 31, 2025, after the Navy received a distress alert from the vessel’s crew.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly boarded the ship secretly while it was docked at the Lagos Port in Nigeria before it sailed toward Ghanaian waters.
“The Ghana Navy, on Friday, 31st October 2025, arrested ten stowaways aboard the Panamanian-flagged merchant vessel Grand Venus in Tema following a distress call,” the statement confirmed.
The Navy swiftly responded to the call and escorted the vessel to the main harbour in Tema, where the suspects were handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service, Port Control, and the Marine Police Unit for further investigations.
The GAF reiterated its commitment to ensuring maritime safety and border security, assuring the public that further updates would be provided as the investigation continues.
“The Ghana Navy wishes to assure the general public that additional details will be shared as the investigation progresses,” the statement concluded.
