Political Scientist and Head of European Studies at the University of Ghana, Kwame Asah Asante, says Ghana has made notable political progress since gaining independence.

Speaking in an interview on the Prime Morning Show as Ghana marked its 69th Independence anniversary, Dr. Asah-Asante acknowledged that the country has come a long way and has achieved significant milestones.

According to him, one of the major achievements since independence in 1957 is the country’s progress in strengthening constitutional rule and improving upon the foundations laid by leaders who fought for independence.

He explained that Ghana has maintained relatively stable democratic practices and processes over the years, including the conduct of free and fair elections.

Dr. Asah-Asante also highlighted the peaceful transfer of power between political parties as an important democratic achievement. He noted that such transitions demonstrate the maturity of Ghana’s democratic system.

In addition, he pointed to increased political participation among citizens and the steady development of political institutions as signs that the country continues to make progress.

“Despite the fact that we’ve had some challenges, we have been able to make sure that we soldier on.” He added

According to the political scientist, these developments show that Ghana’s democracy, despite its challenges, has continued to grow and strengthen since independence.
