Asante Kotoko assistant coach Prince Yaw Owusu has described the team’s disappointing outing in the 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament as a timely wake-up call ahead of their continental campaign.
The Porcupine Warriors endured a winless run in the pre-season competition, suffering defeats in all three matches. Kotoko opened with a 2-1 loss to Bibiani GoldStars, fell to Heart of Lions on penalties after a 1-1 draw, and wrapped up their campaign with a 2-0 defeat to archrivals Hearts of Oak.
With the CAF Confederation Cup on the horizon, Owusu acknowledged that the team must quickly address their shortcomings.
“It’s exactly what we are doing to get the boys ready for the African Cup and the league as well,” he said. “Look, it’s a wake-up call for us…this is a wake-up call for us to fight back and make sure we get back on track to make sure we get back on the winning streak again,” he added.
Kotoko will now shift focus to the Champion of Champions clash against Bibiani GoldStars before facing Nigeria’s Kwara United in the preliminary round of the Confederation Cup.
