The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has engaged a group of unemployed persons with disabilities who visited the Ministry to demand employment opportunities.
The group, led by Gilbert Agyare, presented their concerns during the meeting.
Their visit follows an earlier engagement with the Ministry in February 2026, where they first met the Minister to discuss employment challenges and pathways for inclusion. At the time, she assured them of government’s commitment to addressing their concerns through coordinated efforts involving key stakeholders.

During the latest meeting, Dr. Lartey reiterated that tackling unemployment among persons with disabilities requires a coordinated and data-driven approach. She assured the group that their concerns remain a priority and that the Ministry is committed to listening and responding appropriately.
She explained that since the initial meeting, the Ministry has begun collecting comprehensive data on persons with disabilities to better understand their skills, qualifications, and specific needs, noting that this is key to effective job matching.

The Minister added that the data collection exercise, which initially focused on the group, has now been expanded to include other disability groups nationwide to ensure fairness and inclusivity.
She further indicated that employment placement would be done in phases and coordinated across sectors.
While acknowledging the frustrations expressed by the group, Dr. Lartey noted that engagements are ongoing and processes are underway to address their concerns.
The meeting ended on a constructive note, with the Minister reaffirming her commitment to continued dialogue with stakeholders and the implementation of practical interventions to improve employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
