Arrivals at Kotoka International Airport on the night of Wednesday, September 4, were treated to spirited Ga dances and the traditional salutation “Oobakɛ,” in a move promoting Ga language and cultural recognition.
The surprise welcome, featuring the Obaake dance, was streamed live on social media by Chorkor Youth TV.
The organizers remain unidentified, and the duration of the initiative is yet to be disclosed.
The event follows the recent “Akwaaba vs Oobakɛ” debate sparked by signage at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, which has reignited discussions on preserving Ga identity in Accra’s public spaces.
