A devastating road traffic accident at Okanta, off the Nsawam–Accra Highway, has claimed the lives of four people, with seven others injured after multiple vehicles caught fire in the early hours of Saturday.

Firefighters from the Suhum and Bunso Fire Stations responded swiftly to the distress call at approximately 4:49 a.m., arriving at the scene to find several vehicles engulfed in flames.

The crash involved a fuel tanker, a VVIP bus, and three additional vehicles, which were all burnt beyond recognition.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the scale of the fire made rescue operations difficult, as flames rapidly spread among the vehicles.

Some of the victims are undergoing treatment at the Nsawam Government Hospital, while others have been referred to Accra and Koforidua.
