Four children buried after tragic Kete-Krachi canoe accident

Four children who were among the 15 victims of last Saturday’s tragic canoe accident on the Volta Lake in the Krachi West Municipality of the Oti Region have been laid to rest.

The remaining 11 bodies are currently being kept at the Kete-Krachi Municipal and Worawora Government Hospital mortuaries as families mourn their loved ones.

The accident, which occurred on Saturday, October 11, 2025, has plunged the Bovime community into deep sorrow, with residents describing it as one of the most devastating incidents in recent memory.

Officials from the Ghana Navy and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have since visited the affected community to offer condolences and assist with recovery efforts.

Authorities have assured residents that measures will be taken to enhance safety on the Volta Lake and prevent future tragedies.

The disaster has reignited calls for stricter enforcement of safety protocols and better supervision of transportation activities on the lake.
