Former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo has offered words of comfort and encouragement to Justice Gertrude Torkornoo following her controversial exit from the highest judicial office.
In an interview with Accra-based TV3, the Council of State member described the development as difficult and unfair, urging Justice Torkornoo to remain strong and place her trust in God during this period.
“She should take heart. God sees everything. Sometimes when you go through experiences that make you feel it is the end or that you have been brought to your knees, that may not be the case at all,” she said.
Justice Akuffo encouraged her colleague to remain hopeful, suggesting that this setback could lead to greater opportunities ahead. “There could be bigger, better, and greater things the Lord has in store. That is the message I would want to share with her, and indeed what I would personally send her as a text,” she added.
She reminded Justice Torkornoo and the public that life’s challenges can often redirect individuals to higher callings. “When you are a believer, challenges come, yes, but once they do, you look to God and move forward, allowing Him to handle the rest,” she said.
Her remarks come amid intense public and political debate over Justice Torkornoo’s removal, which has sparked concerns about the independence and stability of Ghana’s judiciary.
