A tragic road accident has occurred at Atwedie near Konongo on the Kumasi-Accra Highway, leaving five people feared dead and eleven others injured in the early hours of Saturday, October 25, 2025.

The crash involved a Sprinter bus with registration number GR 6626-22, which rammed into a stationary tipper truck parked along the road.

According to eyewitness accounts, the Sprinter bus was navigating a curve when the driver suddenly noticed the parked truck ahead.

Despite efforts to swerve, the bus slammed into the rear of the truck, resulting in severe damage and multiple casualties.

One eyewitness described the scene as “heartbreaking,” adding that two passengers seated in the front were trapped in the mangled bus.

“It took fire officers nearly two hours to rescue them. Although the deaths are yet to be confirmed, I fear the five I saw may not survive,” the witness said.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the Police swiftly responded to the scene, helping to extract survivors and restore order on the busy highway.

The injured have since been transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment, while investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash.
