Firefighters from the Sekondi Metro Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have brought a major commercial fire outbreak under control at Tadisco Down in Takoradi, averting what could have been extensive losses.

The incident occurred on Monday, December 22, 2025, when a fire broke out in an area largely occupied by container shops.

Although the responding fire tender developed a mechanical fault while on its way to the scene, firefighters managed to arrive and immediately commenced operations.

By the time the crew got to the location, the fire had already spread from an initial container to several others being used as provision shops, a cold store and a sewing centre.

The firefighters acted quickly and strategically, confining the blaze to ten containers and preventing it from spreading to nearby properties.

The fire was brought under control within minutes and fully extinguished shortly after midnight. No injuries or fatalities were recorded during the operation.

Six containers and a chop bar were successfully salvaged, helping to minimise the overall damage.

Preliminary assessments suggest that the fire may have been triggered by an explosion involving a prepaid electricity meter, although investigations are still ongoing to establish the exact cause.

Meanwhile, GNFS has reiterated its commitment to rapid response and public safety, while urging the public to ensure proper electrical installations to reduce the risk of fire outbreaks.
