Fear grips Nkotompo residents over alleged sakawa rituals at sea

Residents of Nkotompo in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, Western Region, say they are gripped with fear after a group suspected to be “Sakawa boys” allegedly dumped a coffin into the sea after performing rituals on the community’s beach last Saturday.

According to eyewitnesses, the group was confronted by some residents and later arrested by police.

They were granted bail with instructions to appear before the chiefs and elders of Nkotompo for purification rites on Tuesday.

However, the ceremony did not take place due to what community leaders described as miscommunication.

Some residents, speaking to Adom News, expressed fear and anxiety and called on authorities to intervene urgently.

In response, the leader of the Spiritual Scientists Society, Lord Ackkham Rebakham, denied claims that his group had dumped a coffin or human remains into the sea.

He explained that they had gathered at the beach to perform traditional rites for a deceased member, not ritual sacrifices as alleged.

On the postponed purification rites, he clarified that the delay was due to logistical challenges but assured that the rituals would be performed once the required items are procured.
