ESPA suspends planned nationwide strike following government intervention

-

The Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) has announced the suspension of its planned nationwide strike, which was expected to begin on November 7, 2025, following a positive engagement with the Minister for Local Government and Religious Affairs, Ibrahim Ahmed.

According to ESPA, the Minister has assured the association of the government’s commitment to process and settle outstanding arrears owed to waste management companies within the shortest possible time.

The meeting also opened discussions on developing a sustainable policy and funding mechanism for the waste management sector.

In a statement signed by the association’s leadership, ESPA urged all member companies to continue normal operations as the executive council works closely with government to reach a “firm and mutually beneficial resolution” of the ongoing challenges.

“ESPA appreciates the patience and cooperation of all service providers who continue to deliver essential sanitation services under difficult circumstances,” the statement read.

The association emphasized the need for calm and unity among members, cautioning against any action that may disrupt waste collection or sanitation services while negotiations are underway.

ESPA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the interests of all members and ensuring the stability of Ghana’s waste management infrastructure to safeguard both livelihoods and the environment.
